29 August 2026 marks the 114th birthday of Lincoln District Scouts!

For more than a century, generations of young people and volunteers have been learning, exploring, serving their communities and creating memories through Scouting across Lincoln.
1912 – The Beginning of the District
On 29 August 1912, a meeting held at the Deanery, close to Lincoln Cathedral, helped establish the formal Lincoln and District Boy Scouts Local Association — the beginning of what would become Lincoln District Scouts.
However, the story of Scouting in Lincoln began even earlier.
Before the District was formally established, Scouting was already developing across the city, with early groups including Lindum Pioneers, Newland, Orion, Hydra and Priory. A surviving Lindum Pioneers flag dating from 1910 provides a fascinating reminder that Scouting was already established in Lincoln before 1912.
A Century of Change
Over the following 114 years, Lincoln Scouting has experienced enormous change.
The District has continued through two World Wars, adapted to a changing society and evolved alongside the needs and interests of generations of young people.
Through it all, the fundamental idea has remained the same: giving young people opportunities to learn skills, make friends, build confidence and have adventures, supported by dedicated volunteers.
From the earliest Scout groups in Lincoln to the Beaver Scouts, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and activity teams of today, thousands of young people have been part of this story.
And behind every activity, camp, meeting and adventure are volunteers who have given their time to make it possible.
