Shooting has a long-standing place in the history of Scouting, offering young people the opportunity to develop practical skills, personal discipline and confidence through a challenging and rewarding activity.
The sport itself has a rich heritage in the UK. The National Small-bore Rifle Association (NSRA) was established in 1901 to encourage civilian target shooting and has since become the national governing body for air rifle, air pistol and small-bore target shooting. Its relationship with Scouting helps connect young people with established sporting pathways, coaching and national competitions.
Today, air rifle shooting is about far more than hitting the bullseye. It teaches concentration, patience, coordination, responsibility and respect for safety procedures. Young people learn to manage their focus, overcome setbacks and support one another, while discovering a sport they may never otherwise have had the opportunity to experience.
Whether you're a complete beginner or an aspiring marksman, there's a place for you on the firing line.
