Volunteers Help Prepare Sudbrooke Park Campsite for the Season

National Grid team lends a helping hand to refresh the Fire Circle ahead of summer

We were delighted to welcome five volunteers from National Grid to Sudbrooke Park Campsite, who dedicated their time and energy to improving our facilities ahead of the busy camping season.

The team focused their efforts on renovating and repainting our Fire Circle an important communal space where campers gather to relax, socialise, and enjoy the outdoors. Thanks to their hard work, the area has been given a fresh new look and is now ready to be enjoyed by visitors in the months ahead.

This fantastic opportunity was made possible through Volunteering Matters, an organisation that connects businesses with meaningful volunteering projects. They reached out to us to arrange the day, letting us know that a group from National Grid was keen to support a local initiative.

We are incredibly grateful for the volunteers’ enthusiasm and commitment. Their contribution has made a real difference to the campsite, and we look forward to seeing the Fire Circle in full use very soon.

St George's Day 2026

Over a thousand Scouts come together to honour St. George’s Day and create lasting memories.

On Sunday 19th April, Lincoln Scouts came together to celebrate the 2026 St. George’s Day Parade a day dedicated to honouring our traditions and cherishing the memories we create together.

This year’s theme, Memories, felt especially fitting as thousands of young people and adults gathered across the city to share moments that will stay with them for years to come.

From the youngest members proudly taking part in their very first parade to those reflecting on many years of Scouting adventures, the day was filled with pride, friendship, and a true sense of community spirit. Over a thousand participants once again filled the historic streets of Lincoln, each one contributing to the shared experiences that connect our Scouting family.

Events like this do not happen without the dedication and passion of so many people. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organisers who carefully planned every detail, the volunteers who gave their time and energy, and the talented bands whose music brought the parade to life. Your efforts helped create moments that our young people will treasure for years to come.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Castle, and The Lawn. Their continued support and hospitality allow us to celebrate in some of the most iconic and meaningful spaces in our city. Marking St. George’s Day in such historic surroundings adds a special depth and significance to every step of the parade.

Most of all, thank you to every Scout, leader, and supporter who took part. Your enthusiasm, commitment, and sense of belonging are what make days like this so special. St. George’s Day is more than just a date in the calendar — it is a time where memories are made, friendships are strengthened, and the spirit of Scouting shines brightly.

As we look ahead, we carry these memories with us and look forward to creating many more together.

31st Lincoln Scouts Get Stuck In at Green Synergy Community Garden

A hands-on day of teamwork, nature, and community spirit as Scouts help bring a local green space to life

This past weekend, Cubs and Beavers from 31st Lincoln Monks Abbey swapped their usual meeting place for the great outdoors, heading over to the fantastic community garden run by local gardening and horticulture charity Green Synergy , for a big seasonal tidy-up.

The session was all about giving back to the local community while enjoying some hands-on time in nature. The Cubs rolled up their sleeves and got to work clearing weeds, tidying planting areas, and helping to get the garden looking its best for the months ahead.

After all that hard work, they were rewarded with the chance to get planting themselves, sowing seeds that will grow and flourish in the space they’d just helped care for. With Green Synergy’s plant sale coming up later this year, there’s even a chance that some of the plants they’ve sown could go on to be part of it.

It was a brilliant opportunity for the young people to learn more about the environment, teamwork, and the importance of looking after green spaces in our community. Just as importantly, it gave them the chance to slow down, enjoy being outdoors, and really soak up everything this peaceful setting has to offer.

A huge thank you goes to Ali and the team at Green Synergy for welcoming the group and for all the incredible work they do across Lincoln to promote wellbeing, sustainability, and community connection through nature.

Test your aim with bow and blade at Lincoln Scouts’ annual target tournament

We’re pleased to announce that entries are now open for the Lincoln Scouts Target Tournament, featuring both archery and tomahawk throwing.

This exciting annual event brings together participants of all ages and abilities for a day of friendly competition, skill development, and outdoor challenge. Whether you’re an experienced archer, a skilled tomahawk thrower, or trying either discipline for the first time, this tournament offers a great opportunity to test your accuracy and enjoy a well-organised event.

The tournament will include dedicated target rounds for both archery and tomahawks, with categories available for different age groups and experience levels. Qualified instructors and volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to ensure a safe and enjoyable competition for everyone.

15th Lincoln Beavers Collect Donations for Lincoln Foodbank

15th Lincoln (1st North Hykeham) Beavers Support Lincoln Foodbank with Asda Collection

15th Lincoln (1st North Hykeham) Beavers have been out in the community this weekend, helping to make a real difference to local families.

After a visit from Andy at Lincoln Foodbank during a recent Beaver meeting - where he spoke to the colony about fairness, sharing what we have, and how foodbanks support people in times of need - the young people were inspired to take action.

Over the weekend, they headed to Asda to collect food and monetary donations for Lincoln Foodbank. Shoppers were more than happy to support, and the Beavers threw themselves into the task with enthusiasm, big smiles, and plenty of pride.

Deanna, Beaver Leader at 15th Lincoln, said: “Our Beavers were so excited to help the Foodbank, especially after learning about why these donations matter. They approached the challenge with kindness and confidence, and we couldn’t be prouder of the effort they put in. It’s been a wonderful way for them to see how small actions can make a big difference.”

Lincoln Scouts are incredibly proud of the 15th Lincoln Beavers for embracing the spirit of helping others and showing true teamwork in action. Community impact lies at the heart of Scouting, and these young people have shown exactly what that looks like in action.

Lighting the Lincoln Light of Peace

Lincoln Scouts Take Part in the Lincoln Nativity Light of Peace

This Sunday, young people across Lincoln Scouts took part in a meaningful tradition: the Lincoln Nativity Light of Peace.

Each year, a different Scout Group from around the city is invited to play a special role in the ceremony by lighting the candle. This year it was the turn of 12th Lincoln, with representatives attending from Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. The flame was kindled by one of the Scouts using a fire steel - a simple act that carries deep symbolism.

The Lincoln Nativity Light of Peace, is a flame kindled on the First Sunday of Advent and blessed by the Dean of Lincoln Cathedral . It serves as a symbol of hope, unity, and peace at the heart of our city.

The tradition itself grew out of a moment of challenge. During the Covid pandemic, the international Peace Light could not travel from Bethlehem. Rather than lose the meaning behind that powerful light, Lincoln created its own local version - a flame that could be shared with community groups, schools, and youth organisations. A flame that continues to invite people to pause, reflect, and carry peace forward into their daily lives.

The Dean of Lincoln, The Very Revd Dr Simon Jones said: "Light has always held a special place at the heart of Advent and Christmas. It reminds us that even the smallest flame can push back darkness and offer hope. This year, we’ve brought eight Christmas trees into the Cathedral as a visible celebration of that message."

His hope is that everyone who visits the Cathedral this season finds a moment of peace, and carries a little of that light back into their daily lives. And he extends a warm invitation to all of our Scouting family and friends to visit the Cathedral during Advent, to spend a quiet moment with the Light of Peace and share in its message of hope.

The message behind the Light of Peace is simple but important: peace begins with each of us. It is shaped by kindness, patience, forgiveness, and compassion. As our young people gathered in the Cathedral to take part in this year’s ceremony, that message shone brightly.

The Lincoln Nativity Light of Peace will remain lit throughout the season, offering a quiet space to pause, reflect, light a candle in the chapel, or take your own light from the lantern to share at home or within your group.

Lincoln Scouts would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lincoln Cathedral for continuing to welcome the local Scouting community into this beautiful tradition, and to all of the adult volunteers whose support makes opportunities like this possible.

Celebrating Our Young Achievers at Lincoln Scouts’ “Night at the Oscars”

Lincoln Scouts are set to shine a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of their young people this week with a sparkling “Night at the Oscars” celebration. Taking place on Thursday 20 November in the prestigious Cathedral Ballroom at the DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln, the Young People’s Awards evening promises an unforgettable night of recognition, celebration and a touch of Hollywood glamour.

The event brings together young people from the older sections - Scouts, Explorers and Network members aged 10½ to 25 - who have earned the highest honours in Scouting. These “top awards” are the result of years of dedication, resilience and leadership. They include the Chief Scout’s Gold and Platinum Awards, the Chief Scout’s Diamond Award, the Explorer Belt, the King’s Scout Award, and a number of top-tier Network achievements.

Each of these awards represents a significant personal challenge: from multi-day expeditions and volunteering pledges to mastering new skills and stepping confidently into leadership roles. For many who spend their time hiking, camping and taking part in outdoor adventures, this evening is a rare chance to swap muddy boots for something more glamorous – and be thoroughly celebrated for their hard work.

Hannah Mountain, Youth Lead Volunteer for Lincoln Scouts, said: “This evening is all about putting our young people centre stage. They give so much to their communities, challenge themselves in extraordinary ways, and consistently show resilience, leadership and kindness. These awards take years of effort and personal growth to achieve, and our ‘Night at the Oscars’ gives us the chance to recognise that in a truly special way. I wanted to give them a night to remember - they absolutely deserve it.”

The celebration marks the first district-wide event of its kind for Lincoln Scouts, bringing together the young people, families and volunteers to applaud the achievements of some of the city’s most dedicated young people.

This year’s event has been made possible thanks to the generosity of the DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln, who have provided their stunning Cathedral Ballroom to help make the night truly memorable.

Parry Rathod, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln, said: “DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln is proud to support our local community and delighted to host the Lincoln Scouts’ Young People’s Awards this November. This flexible volunteer role is all about helping keep our Scout HQ in great shape - from small repairs and routine maintenance to bigger improvement projects that make a real difference for the hundreds of young people who use the site each year.

About the Role

Role Title: Site Services Team Member – Altham Terrace Lincoln District HQ

Type: Volunteer (Flexible commitment)

Purpose of the Role:

To support the upkeep, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of Altham Terrace Lincoln District HQ and its surrounding grounds - ensuring the site remains safe, welcoming, and fit for adventure.

Key Responsibilities:

Carry out routine maintenance, cleaning, and small repairs as needed.
Support larger site improvement or development projects.
Work with other volunteers to identify and plan maintenance tasks.
Ensure tools, materials, and the site are used safely and appropriately.
Take pride in helping to provide a clean, safe, and functional space for young people and volunteers to enjoy.

Skills and Experience:

No formal qualifications required - just a practical mindset and willingness to get stuck in.
Basic DIY, gardening, or maintenance skills are useful but not essential.
Team player with a positive attitude and good sense of humour.

Time Commitment:

This is a flexible volunteer role that fits around your availability. Most help is needed during planned maintenance days, with more outdoor tasks like grass cutting and gardening in the summer, and indoor maintenance or repair jobs over the winter. You can do as much or as little as you’re able - we work as a team to share the load.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide guidance and advice on safety matters to local Scout Groups, District events, and activity teams.
Support the development and review of risk assessments and safety plans.
Assist in monitoring compliance with Scout Association safety policies and procedures.
Offer practical help to volunteers to ensure activities are delivered safely and confidently.
Work collaboratively with the wider Safety Team, District Lead Volunteer, and event organisers.
Contribute to incident reviews and learning to continually improve safety practice across Lincoln Scouts.

Ideally, you will have experience or a qualification in Health and Safety, risk management, or a related field.
Confidence in communicating and supporting others in understanding safety expectations.

What We Do

Scouting empowers young people with skills for life through fun, adventure, and friendship. Our groups provide weekly activities, camps, and challenges that help children and teens grow in confidence, resilience, and leadership.

What Trustees Do

As a Trustee, you’ll help oversee the management of the Scout group, ensuring it runs safely, legally, and sustainably. You’ll work with other volunteers to:

Help shape the future of scouting
Support the safe and effective running of a group
Shape the group’s long-term strategy
Oversee finances, policies and governance
Work with a friendly and committed team of volunteers

Who We're Looking For

You don’t need to have been a Scout – just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to help. We welcome people from all backgrounds, and we’re especially keen to hear from those with experience in:

Finance or fundraising
Property or facilities management
Marketing or communications
Governance or charity work

Time Commitment

Trustees typically attend 6 - 8 meetings per year and support occasional events or projects. It’s a flexible role that fits around your life.

Lincub and Little Lincs 2025

Cubs Take Over Sudbrooke Park as over 400 young people and volunteers join together for an unforgettable County Cub camp.

This past weekend, our district campsite at Sudbrooke Park was alive with energy, laughter, and adventure as we welcomed more than 400 Cubs and volunteers for LINCUB , Lincolnshire Scout's County Cub camp.

From the moment the camp opened, the site was buzzing with excitement. Cubs from across the county joined together to enjoy a huge variety of activities, from climbing walls and adventurous challenges to bouncy inflatables that kept spirits soaring. The smiles, teamwork, and enthusiasm on display truly captured the spirit of Scouting.

Saturday was made even more special with the arrival of Beavers and Squirrels, who joined the fun for Little Lincs . This day event gave our youngest members the chance to experience the magic of camp alongside the Cubs. From their first taste of adventurous activities to simply soaking up the excitement of such a big gathering, it was wonderful to see so many young people taking part and beginning their own Scouting journeys.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible dedication of our site team, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. From ensuring facilities were spotless to maintaining the grounds throughout the weekend, their efforts made a huge difference and allowed everyone else to focus on making memories.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the owners of the adjoining site, who generously allowed us to use their field and lake. Having that extra space meant young people had even more room to explore, play, and take part in outdoor adventures.

Lincub was a shining example of what happens when volunteers, leaders, and young people come together with a spirit of adventure and community. We’re proud of every Cub, Beaver, and Squirrel who took part, and grateful to every volunteer who gave their time and energy to make the weekend such a success.

Here’s to the next LINCUB – we can’t wait to do it all again!

Do you play a brass or woodwind instrument?

Or maybe you’d like to pick it up again after a break?

We’re looking for new members to join our fun, welcoming band . Whether you’re experienced or just enjoy making music, this is a great way to connect with others and perform together.

Who can join?

Young people (ages 8–18): Open to all who are already members of Scouts or Girlguiding.

Over 18s:

If you’re in Network or already an adult volunteer within Scouting or Guiding, you can join.
If you’re not currently involved in either association, you’re still welcome! All we ask is that you complete a short online safety and safeguarding module before you get started.

Whether you’re an experienced player or someone who just enjoys making music, this is a great opportunity to connect with others, have fun, and make a big impact through performance.

31st Lincoln (Monks Abbey) – Treasurer Needed

31st Lincoln (Monks Abbey) Scouts are urgently seeking a Treasurer to joi n their Trustee Board. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in the role, please get in touch with their Group Lead Volunteer.

What does a Trustee do?

Every Scout Group is supported by a team of Trustees who make sure the group is well-managed, financially secure, and delivering the best possible Scouting experience for young people. Trustees don’t run activities directly with the young people (unless they’d like to!) - instead, they support the leaders behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.

What does the Treasurer do?

The Treasurer takes the lead in managing the group’s finances - keeping track of income and expenditure, preparing simple accounts, and ensuring the group remains financially healthy. You don’t need to be a professional accountant, if you’re comfortable with numbers and spreadsheets, you’ll be a great fit.

Why get involved?

Becoming a Trustee is a fantastic way to support local Scouting. You’ll be part of the wider Lincoln Scouting family, helping to provide young people with skills for life, while also gaining new skills yourself. Not everyone needs to put on a neckerchief or camp in the rain. Scouting relies on many different roles in the background to keep things running - from managing finances to helping with admin or supporting events. There are plenty of ways to contribute that can be flexible to your time, skills, and interests.

Volunteers Needed to Keep Our T-Rex Roaring!

A few hours of volunteering from you could mean years of adventure for them

Bassingham’s very own T-Rex Explorer Unit is stomping along with a brilliant group of enthusiastic young people – but without new volunteers, our mighty dinosaur might become extinct!

Meeting just once every two weeks on a Friday evening during term time, and the Explorers are always up for adventure, challenges, and a good laugh. From campfires to community projects, they bring bags of energy and a great attitude.

What they're missing is YOU – someone who can help keep the fun alive. You don’t need to be an expert in survival skills, camping, or dino-wrangling. You just need a sense of humour, a willingness to get stuck in, and a couple of hours to spare twice a month. Training, support, and plenty of cups of tea are all provided!

By volunteering, you’ll be giving young people opportunities to grow in confidence, learn new skills, and make memories that last a lifetime. And who knows – you might discover talents you never knew you had (or finally master how to toast the perfect marshmallow!).

Set Sail with Lincoln’s New Explorer Sea Scout Unit

Excalibur Launches This October!

We’re excited to announce the launch of an all-new Explorer Unit right here in Lincoln!

Excalibur – Lincoln’s Sea Scout Explorer Unit – will officially open its doors on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, based at our Altham Terrace HQ .

This new 14–18 Explorer provision will bring an exciting balance of land and water-based activities, giving young people the chance to experience adventure both on and off the water while developing essential Skills for Life.

Meet the Team Behind Excalibur

The Unit will be led by Jonathan Hadleigh, our current District Network Lead, alongside a core team of four volunteers and support from the District Water Team .

Jonathan shared his thoughts on the launch:

“I have been really privileged to be able to make this dream a reality; I couldn’t ask for a better core team and it wouldn’t be possible without them, the Water Team, or our district leadership. We all want as many young people as possible to be able to enjoy a range of experiences with us. As we look to the horizon and get ready to open Excalibur, I am looking forward to providing time on the water, nautical themed activities, and brand-new skills for life!”

Become a Communications Liaison for Your Scout Group

Could You Be a Media Liaison for Your Scout Group?

We all know Scouting is full of incredible stories - from camps and community projects to the everyday achievements of young people. But sometimes those stories don’t get shared as widely as they could.

That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for Media Liaisons to act as the link between your Scout Group and the District Media Team. By helping us share what’s happening locally, you’ll make sure that the amazing things your Group does are seen and celebrated across Lincoln District and beyond.

What does a Media Liaison do?

The most important part of the role is acting as a go-between for your Group and the Lincoln District Media Team - keeping us up to date with what’s happening, inviting us along to capture photos at events, or even supplying your own pictures if you’re a keen photographer.

As a Media Liaison, you’ll:

Be the contact point between your Group and the District Media Team.
Provide stories and updates – from events, activities, and awards to everyday moments that capture the spirit of Scouting.
Support content creation by sending photos, news, and short write-ups we can use to promote your Group and District.
Help spread the word by sharing District posts and encouraging your Group to grow its presence on social media.
Champion the Scout brand by helping your Group’s communications look professional and consistent.

Why volunteer?

This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys storytelling, social media, or just wants to help their Group grow. You don’t need to be an expert in communications - our District Media Team will provide guidance, support, and resources to make it easy.

Lincoln Scouts Proud to Support Lincoln Pride 2025

Lincoln Scouts join forces with Lincolnshire Scouts to deliver the Pride Family Area

On Saturday 16th August 2025, Lincoln Scouts were proud to stand alongside Lincolnshire Scouts at Lincoln Pride UK , helping deliver a safe, fun and welcoming Family Zone for all.

The day began with an inspiring welcome from our District Lead Volunteer, Lee, who reminded us all why being part of Pride matters:

“Pride is more than a party. It’s a statement. It’s a celebration of love, identity, and the right to be exactly who you are, without fear, without shame, without compromise. And today, we, Lincolnshire Scouts, are a part of that…”

F rom that moment, the positivity flowed throughout the day. Families, young people and adults joined in with a wide range of activities, from soft archery and axe throwing to bracelet making, tattoos, rainbow Duplo building, and even Scout Pride Bingo that encouraged everyone to explore the event.

Our quiet and wellbeing areas also offered a safe, calm space for those who needed a break, ensuring that inclusivity remained at the heart of the Family Zone.

The atmosphere was filled with smiles, laughter and energy, and we were humbled by the amazing feedback from those who took part.

A huge thank you goes to Claire, the County Inclusion Team Lead, and the entire Pride team, as well as the many leaders, volunteers and young people from across Lincoln District and the wider Lincolnshire County , who gave their time and energy to make the day possible. Your hard work and enthusiasm made a real difference.

We’re proud that Lincoln Scouts could play such an active role in supporting Lincolnshire Scouts’ Family Zone at Pride, showing that Scouting is a movement where everyone is welcome and celebrated.

Lincoln Explorer Scouts Set Off on Race Across Europe Adventure

Adventure, challenges, and friendship as Lincoln Scouts travel across Europe

A group of determined young people from Wragby Explorer Scouts have set out on the adventure of a lifetime as they take part in Race Across Europe, a Scouting and Girlguiding challenge inspired by the hit TV show Race Across the World.

Known as The Amazing Red Barrows - a playful nod to both the Red Arrows and their Amazon ESU roots - the team of four Explorers, two Network memb ers, and two leaders departed this weekend for their two-week journey across the continent.

Their goal? To reach Sicily by 6th August, completing challenges and hitting checkpoints along the way.

“We get to choose exactly where we go and what route we take,” explained Matthew. “As long as we reach the checkpoints on time, how we do it is completely up to us - and that’s what makes it so exciting.”

Planning, fundraising, and a lot of creativity

Despite the challenge of sticking to a tight budget, the team has shown real resourcefulness. They’ve secured accommodation and support from Scout groups across Europe - thanks to Libby and Beth’s relentless outreach. “They spammed… everybody,” laughed Harry. “We searched Google Maps for Scout groups and they just started emailing!”

Their itinerary is as adventurous as it is ambitious. From learning local dances and attending festivals, to stroking a (hopefully safe) wild boar and meeting MPs, they’ve packed in experiences at every turn. They even planned a night bus journey from Venice to Rome and are racing to visit as many cathedrals as possible along the way.

The preparation has been meticulous, with 28 risk assessments completed - including one for seismic activity. “I’ve never done a risk assessment involving earthquakes before,” admitted leader Connie. “But we’re ready!”

Excitement and memories in the making

The night before departure, the atmosphere was electric. “I feel amazing,” said Tilly. “I’m excited. This is going to be such a big part of our lives - something we’ll remember forever.”

Thanks to generous donations and tireless fundraising - through badge sales, tuck shops, and a GoFundMe campaign - the Red Barrows raised over £1,250. This extra money has allowed them to fund cultural experiences, boat rides, zoo visits, and more. “That money means we can do so much more - it’s really added to what we can achieve,” Tilly added. “We would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated.”

As they document their journey through social media, postcards, and even an A-Level art project, the Red Barrows are building memories that will last a lifetime. And they’re already thinking ahead.

“We’ve already planned our ‘reunion tour’,” joked Connie. “Everywhere they couldn’t fit in this time has gone on the list for next time.”

Explorer Units

In Lincoln District we have 10 active Explorer Scout Units, a Young Leader Unit, most of whom, also attend an active unit, and a Virtual Unit for those who can’t attend an active unit but wish to remain in Scouting, or, who are solely Explorer Scout Young Leaders.

Each unit has its own name and some have developed their own logo’s for their active wear etc. The Units’ names are not the names of the places where they regularly meet.

AMAZONS – meets at the same location as the 8th Lincoln at Wragby.
CORITANI – meets at the same location as the 11th Lincoln at Washingborough.
CRUSADERS – meets at the same location as the 4th Lincoln at Nettelham.
EGXS ESU – meets at Swinderby Village Hall.
MAVERICKS - meets at the same location as the 24th Lincoln at Saxilby.
SENTRIES - meets at the same location as the 10th Lincoln at Waddington.
SPARTAN - meets at the same location as the 7th Lincoln at St Faiths church (just off West Parade).
T-REX - meets at the same location as the 30th Lincoln at Bassingham.
VIKINGS - meets at the same location as the 18th Lincoln at Bailgate church.
WAYFARERS - meets at the same location (s) as the 15th Lincoln at North Hykeham.

Scouts moving up can join any unit they wish, they can attend more than one unit, they can try them all out to see which one best fits them.
Young Leaders must be 13.5yrs old or over and an Explorer Scout or doing D of E Service. No one under 13.5yrs old should be being treated as a Young Leader.
